Day 2 - a mixed bag

Begin at Charing Cross Station. Exit into Villiers Street and go right through The Arches. Continue through Craven Passage passing the SHERLOCK HOLMES PUB. Left at Northumberland Avenue. Cross and walk through EMBANKMENT GARDENS southwards.

Take a BOAT TRIP from Westminster Pier to the TOWER.

Walk along Tower Wharf.
Go up onto TOWER BRIDGE.

Return and continue to ST KATHERINE'S DOCK.
This area is worth exploring.

Exit into East Smithfield and go round to Tower Hill. Catch a number 15 bus going west.
This route is sometimes operated by ROUTEMASTER BUSES. The route goes through the CITY OF LONDON passing the MONUMENT, MANSION HOUSE & ST PAUL'S CATHEDRAL then along Fleet Street and the Strand.

Alight after the Waterloo Bridge approach and walk through COVENT GARDEN to the right.
There are shops, stalls and entertainers here. The ROYAL OPERA HOUSE is worth visiting if open. My

Leave via Upper St Martins Lane and Monmouth Street passing through SEVEN DIALS. Continue along Shaftesbury Avenue then go along Coptic Street to the BRITISH MUSEUM.
View the Great Court, Reading Room (if open) and sample galleries that are of interest.

Exit and go westwards along Great Russell Street crossing Tottenham Court Road into Hanway Street. Cross Oxford Street and go via Soho Street into Soho Square. Exit via Frith Street or Greek Street. Cross Shaftesbury Avenue and access Gerrard Street via Gerrard Place.
This street is the centre of CHINATOWN.

Walk along Gerrard Street then Wardour Street, Lisle Street and Leicester Place to Leicester Square. Exit at the SE corner into Charing Cross Road. Go right passing the NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY to Trafalgar Square. Go alongside St Martins-in-the Fields Church and cross the Strand to access Charing Cross Station.
